Orchestra

Grades 9-12 (full year, 5 days a week)

Orchestra is a full-year course intended for students who play the violin, viola, cello, or string bass. Students will study and perform orchestral music encompassing classical to contemporary genres. Musicians will further develop ensemble playing skills and string technique through performance. Students are required to attend all after-school rehearsals and performances. It is recommended that students practice individually at home to improve their class performance. This course can be repeated for credit.

Honors Orchestra

Grades 9-12 (full year, 5 days a week)
Prerequisite: Teacher or Director Recommendation
This full year course is open to students who have successfully participated in Orchestra class. Students are expected to take on leadership roles within the class. Honors orchestra members are required to perform in all of the same performances as orchestra, as well as:
  • Perform in Solo Festival, SEMSBA, or District
  • Perform in the Chamber Orchestra (as schedule allows)

Symphony Orchestra

Symphony orchestra meets once a week, during the school day, and combines all members of the band and orchestra (strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion) to form a symphony. They perform varied music from challenging classical and contemporary contemporary orchestral literature to develop advanced performance skills and musicality

Chamber Orchestra (after school)

Chamber Orchestra is an advanced audition-based ensemble that meets once a week after school throughout the school year. They perform challenging repertoire, focusing on advanced technical mastery, artistry, music theory, and independent musicianship in a smaller, more intimate setting than a full symphony orchestra, often competing and performing at a higher level. They perform at all of the same concerts as the string orchestra and often do extra performances.
