Durfee Theatre Company Mission Statement

The mission of the DTC is to cultivate confident, creative, and collaborative students through theatrical storytelling, providing meaningful opportunities to explore performance, technical theatre, and leadership in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Acting I
Acting I provides opportunities for students interested in learning basic acting skills and techniques, including pantomime, improvisation, vocal production, scenes, and stage geography and terminology. Group performance in class is mandatory. Students will evaluate their own performance and the performances of their classmates through journal writing, open response, and oral discussion.

Acting II
Acting II builds upon foundational acting skills through in-depth scene study from a variety of historical periods and theatrical styles. Students develop fully realized characters by analyzing text, exploring motivation, and applying physical and vocal choices. The course also introduces stage-appropriate makeup and hair techniques, helping students transform their appearance to support character and period authenticity. Through collaborative rehearsal and performance, students strengthen confidence, creativity, and professionalism on stage.
